Setup Guide: Google
To access your Google emails through Attachment Bot, you'll need to set up IMAP and generate an app-specific password. Follow these steps to get started.
Enable IMAP Access in Gmail
You must first enable IMAP in your Google account:
- Open Gmail on your computer.
- Click on the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner and select 'See all settings'.
- Navigate to the 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP' tab.
- In the 'IMAP access' section, select 'Enable IMAP'.
- Click on 'Save Changes' at the bottom of the page.
Generate an App-Specific Password
Google requires an app-specific password to use IMAP:
- Visit your Google Account's Security page at https://myaccount.google.com/security.
- Enable 2-Step Verification if you haven't already.
- Under the 'How you sign in to Google' section, click 2-Step Verification then click 'App passwords' (or click here). You may be prompted to sign in.
- Enter 'Attachment Bot' for 'App name'
- You'll be presented with a generated password. Note this password—it won't be shown again.
Configure Attachment Bot
With IMAP enabled and your app-specific password:
- Open Attachment Bot and navigate to the accounts tab in the sidebar.
- Tap 'Add Account'.
- Enter your full Gmail address and the app-specific password you generated.
- For the IMAP server, use 'imap.gmail.com' and port 993.
- Save your account information to start accessing your emails in Attachment Bot.
Keep your app-specific password secure as it provides direct access to your Google account.
